Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, objects to the Establishment of Quotas on Grain Export

The Head of the Parliament made this statement after the visit to Kyiv Taras Shevchenko National University, commenting on the situation in the grain market of Ukraine. "I strongly recommend against various bans, as it may provoke backdoor sales. If the standard of grain export quota is established, another opportunity for corruption and misuse will open up," V.Lytvyn stated. "Corruption may take place by the issue of permits for export within certain quotas."

The Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine stated that Ukraine has enough grain, especially, in the private ownership. "The state should think of the way to register this grain, covering relevant expenses. The same concerns buckwheat, as some people work on their land and have the reserves of it," he declared.

The Head of the Parliament admitted to the positive aspects of grain export. Thus, it will "satisfy the demands of corn traders who want to buy the grain up for nothing and export it." He believes that purchase prices for grain for exporters should at least cover the expenses of the grain producers.
